Marie Zeigler Sturgess, 89, of Columbia, SC, died on Sunday, November 3, 2024. Born on February 13, 1935, in Columbia, she was a daughter of the late Johnny W. Zeigler and Lula James Zeigler. Mrs. Sturgess was raised in Eastover, SC, and was a graduate of Lower Richland High School. While in high school, she was on the basketball team and was class vice president. Prior to her retirement, she was employed by Bendix Corporation and Kmart. Mrs. Sturgess was a very loving mother and grandmother who always put her family first. She will be remembered for her unselfish nature and willingness to help others.

Survivors include her two sons, William "Rocky" C. Sturgess, Jr. (Debbie) of Lugoff, SC and Russell Z. Sturgess of Elgin, SC; grandchildren, Kelly Sturgess Lyle (Patrick), Megan Sturgess Kyzer (Gerald), Cory A. Sturgess (Jennifer), Amy Sturgess Liley (Lucas); eight great grandchildren as well as many nieces and nephews that she loved dearly. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, William "Bill" C. Sturgess, Sr.; daughter-in-law, Lisa Stein Sturgess, and sisters, Jean Zeigler Grant and Callie Zeigler Eyers.

The funeral service for Mrs. Sturgess will be held at 2 o'clock, Friday, November 8th at Shives Funeral Home, Trenholm Road Chapel, 7600 Trenholm Road Ext, Columbia, SC with the Rev. Danny Wilson officiating.

Burial will follow at Greenlawn Memorial Park, 7100 Garners Ferry Rd., Columbia, SC.

The family will receive guests prior to the service beginning at 1 o'clock.
