Obituary

Mrs. Marion Lawny, 76, of Columbia, SC, passed away on March 28, 2025, surrounded by her family. Born on March 28, 1949, to the late Mr. Albert Appa and Mrs. Pauline Wright Appa in Chicago, Illinois.

Marion was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, aunt, and friend, whose life was defined by her selflessness and unwavering love for those she held dear. She spent the first part of her married life as a military wife, supporting her husband, George, through the challenges of service and frequent relocations. After 56 years of marriage, their bond remained as strong as ever, built on a foundation of love, mutual respect, and shared experiences. Marion was the heart of her family, always putting the needs of others before her own. Her deep love for her children and grandchildren shaped everything she did, offering guidance, encouragement, and a steady presence. Marion's home was a place of warmth and comfort, where cherished memories were made, especially during the holidays when her family would gather to celebrate the bonds she so lovingly nurtured. Her kindness, generosity, and devotion will forever be remembered by all who were fortunate to know her.

Her greatest joy was watching her children and grandchildren grow, and her love and wisdom will forever remain in their hearts. Marion's spirit will live on in the legacy she leaves behind, carried forward by those who were fortunate enough to know her love.

She is survived by her husband of 56 years, George Lawny; children, Alicia Lawny, Christina Marte (Mike), Nicholas Lawny (Ashley), and Jennifer Haynes; grandchildren, Hali Marte, Justin Marte, Grayson Lawny, Peyton Lawny, McKenzie Lawny, Zachary Haynes, Rebecca Haynes, and Emily Haynes; sister, Angela Cavanaugh and the late Michael Appa; and nieces and nephews.
