Obituary

Mrs. Marion Carney McClure, 90, of Columbia, died Wednesday, June 6, 2018. Born January 7, 1928 in Charleston, West Virginia, she was a daughter of the late Fleming Fairbanks and Icy Miller Carney. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, William Hill McClure. Mrs. McClure lived a long, healthy life and had a career as a bookkeeper for several small businesses. She was a working mother beginning in the 1950's and, after her sons were raised, continued working through the 1980's. She grew up in Dunbar, WV and resided in St. Albans, WV, Beaufort, SC, and most recently in Columbia, SC. She and her husband, Bill, enjoyed spending many enjoyable years at their camp and cabin in Hacker Valley, WV. Mrs. McClure made friends everywhere she went and had a contagious sense of humor. She laughed a lot. She was kind to animals and loved her dogs Stoney, Rufus, and Barney.

Mrs. McClure is survived by her sons, William Hill McClure (Paige Moody) of Charlotte, NC and Robert Carney McClure (Ilona) of Blythewood, SC; granddaughter, Meghan McClure Lluberas (Luis) of Charlotte, NC; great grandchildren, Scarlett and Oliver; brother, Timothy Carney (Linda) of Little River, SC; as well as her dog, Barney.

The service for Mrs. McClure will be held at 2 o'clock, Friday, June 15th at the Chapel of Sharon Presbyterian Church, 5201 Sharon Rd, Charlotte, NC 28210 with Dr. Robert J. Blumer officiating. An inurnment will follow in the church cemetery. Bill and Paige McClure invite family and friends to their home following the services for refreshments and fellowship in celebration of her life.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to Mrs. Gwendolyn Moon, the staff of Wildewood Downs Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, and Lighthouse Hospice for their devoted care of Mrs. McClure over the last several months.

Memorials may be made to the charity of ones' choice.
