Marjorie Stabler Alderman, 96, of Columbia, met her Savior face to face on Thursday, June 26, 2014. Born April 20, 1918 in Calhoun County, she was a daughter of the late David Stabler and Lottie Kaigler Stabler. She was a charter member of St. John United Methodist Church, and was active in many various areas of her church and the Denny Terrace Community.
Survivors include her daughter, Miriam (Donald) Grooms of Irmo; a son, Marion (Paula) Alderman of Hendersonville, NC; grandchildren; Donna (Carl) Franklin, Don (Pam) Grooms, Gary Grooms, Pam (Dennis) McElveen, and Richard Galloway; twelve great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Herbert Alderman; a daughter, Carolyn Galloway; two brothers, and two sisters.
The family would like to thank the staff at Lexington Medical Center Extended Care, Lexington Trace, for their loving care over the last years of Mrs. Alderman's life.
The funeral service for Mrs. Alderman will be held at 3 o'clock, Sunday, June 29th at Shives Funeral Home, 5202 Colonial Drive, Columbia, with The Rev. John Jordan officiating. Interment will follow in Woodridge Memorial Park. The family will receive friends prior to the service beginning at 2 o'clock.
