Marshall Reid Houston

Marshall “Reid” Houston passed away at his home on Sunday, August 23, 2026, following a brief illness.

Reid was born in Greensboro, North Carolina, on September 14, 1951, he was the son of the late Frank Neal Houston and Harriet DuRant Houston. He spent his younger years in Greenville, South Carolina.

Reid graduated from the University of New Mexico with degrees in Agriculture and Wildlife Management. He began his career with the Bureau of Land Management in Wyoming before returning to South Carolina, where he worked for the South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control (DHEC) until his retirement.

Reid’s greatest passion was aviation. He loved flying and spent many years sharing that passion with others as a flight instructor while living in Blythewood, South Carolina.

Reid will be remembered and deeply missed by his family and friends. He is survived by his two sisters, Nancy Louise Atkinson (Danny) and Harriet Elizabeth “Beth” Dragoone (Louis); his nephews, Ryan Atkinson and Joshua Todd; and his niece, Sarah Johnson. He was preceded in death by his parents and his niece, Jannifer Atkinson Owens.

There are no formal services planned at this time.

Shives Funeral Home, Trenholm Road Chapel, is assisting the family and will announce further plans.
