Obituary

Martha Parasco Fanti Coombs passed away at the home of her daughter and son-in-law on Tuesday, May 28, 2019, at the age of 98. She was born in Boston, MA, July 3, 1920, the second child to the late Eleftharios and Anastacia (Lynadarkis) Parasco. The family resided in Saugus, MA and she proudly graduated from Saugus High School. Martha and Ralph married October 24, 1939. They resided in Lynn, MA for many years before moving with their children to Georgetown, MA.

Martha and Ralph were very involved with their children's activities throughout their lives and volunteered wherever they could help. One of their accomplishments, along with other like-minded parents, was the forming of the first boosters club for the football team in order to support the team with recognition and a banquet.

After their children were grown, they moved back to their hometown of Saugus. Again, they became involved with civic organizations, especially the local VFW. It was there they helped with many programs to help the veterans. Martha was President of the Auxiliary two times. She was instrumental in having the club host an afternoon tea for the Local Gold Star Parents. It was one of her most treasured memories to honor these mothers and fathers.

Martha was also very involved both as a volunteer and a staff person with the Town of Saugus working in the Social Services Department off and on for many years. She was very involved with development and building of the Saugus Senior Center. During this time, she and a few others graduated from the first course at Boston University strictly to teach community workers to develop programs and resources for seniors. As a result of this education she worked as an outreach worker for the Greater Lynn Senior Services.

Many years after the death of her beloved Ralph, she was blessed to enjoy marriage again for four years with Mario Fanti.
In addition to the deaths of Ralph and Mario, she is preceded by her brothers and sisters-in-law, Chester and Loretta Parasco, Peter and Georgia Parasco; and her beloved nephew, Chester Parasco, Jr.

Martha leaves behind her sister, Theodora Valasunas of Duxbury, MA; her children, Charles and Barbara Coombs of Austin, AR, David and Judy Coombs of Clearwater, FL, Joe and Martha Ann (Coombs) Maynard of Elgin, SC. She has eight grandchildren, Lisa-Ann Zaprzalka, Daniel Coombs, Julie Coombs, Matthew Maynard, David Jason Coombs, Jonathan Coombs, Rachel Faris and Nicole Jennings. She has 17 great grandchildren and 8 great great-grandchildren.

The Maynard family will receive SC family and friends at their home in Elgin, SC, from 2 until 4 o'clock, Saturday, June 1st. A funeral will be held later in Saugus, MA. The Bisbee Funeral Home in Saugus, MA, is in charge of those arrangements.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Amedisys Hospice, 1900 Sunset Blvd., #103, West Columbia, SC 29169.
