Martha Stewart Geiger, 87, of Lexington, South Carolina, and widow of William Gene "Billy" Geiger, passed away Wednesday afternoon, June 4, 2025, with her family at her side.
On June 18, 1937, Martha was born to the late David Simpson Stewart, Sr. and the late Hilda Smith Stewart. She was a very faithful member of the West Columbia Church of Christ for over 65 years, where she taught Bible school for 40 years. Martha was always the first to help at the church as a wedding director, organizing bridal and baby showers, and preparing food for church meals and for the sick and bereaved. She retired after 40 years as the Executive Assistant for Robert M. Whiteside with Equitable Life Insurance. Meme, as she was known to her grandchildren and great-grandson, was a very generous and loving lady who always put her church and her family first.
In addition to her husband of 52 years and her parents, Martha was preceded in death by her brother, David S. "Sonny" Stewart, Jr.
Surviving are her daughter, Dawn Geiger Gamble and her husband, Jones, of Lexington; two grandchildren, Courtney Gamble Dunbaker and her husband, K.C. of Irmo, and Michael Jones Gamble of Lexington; one great-grandson, Grayson Cole "Gray" Dunbaker; one sister, Mary S. Shaw of Irmo, and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 12 until 1 o'clock Friday afternoon, June 6, 2025, at West Columbia Church of Christ – 1701 Augusta Road, West Columbia.
The funeral service will be at 1 o'clock at West Columbia Church of Christ with Minister Harvey C. Allen officiating. Burial will follow in Elmwood Cemetery. Shives Funeral Home, Trenholm Road Chapel, is assisting the family.
