Obituary

Martha Bowen Nimmons Parker, 95, widow of the Hon. Marshall Joyner Parker, formerly of Seneca, SC, died November 8, 2018, in Raleigh, NC. Born in November, 1923, in Seneca, she was a daughter of the late Agnes Louise Farmer and Rufus Kay Nimmons, Sr. She was a graduate of Stuart Hall in Staunton, VA, and attended Agnes Scott College and UNC at Chapel Hill. She was married to Marshall Parker for 65 years before his death in 2008. In 2007 they were named Philanthropists of the Year at Tri-County Technical College where he had served as a trustee for many years. She was a member of St Mark United Methodist Church and the Wizard of Tamassee Chapter, DAR.

Surviving are daughters: Dr. Anna P. Williams of Raleigh, NC; Susan P. DePass (Rusty) of Columbia, SC; the Rev. Alice P. Day (Derek) of Cherryville, NC; nine grandchildren: Dr. Kathleen W. Nissman (Daniel) of Raleigh, NC; Burl Franklin Williams (Jessica) of Greenville, SC; Hinton Joyner Williams of Raleigh, NC; William Brunson DePass, III (Emily); Martha D. Byron (Joey); and Caroline D. Watts (Jon), all of Columbia, SC; Rebekah Alice Day of Cherryville, NC; Derek Paul Day, Jr. of Colorado Springs, CO; and the Rev. Fr. Marshall Benjamin Day of Kennesaw, GA; 14 great grandchildren: Irene Butler Nissman, Vera Bowen Nissman, Marshall Parker Williams, Mary Franklin Emerson Williams, Thomas David Anderson Williams, Beatrice Jane DePass, Mary Parker DePass, William Brunson DePass, IV, Joseph Nazaire Byron, IV, Gatsby Mae Byron, Margaret Macaulay Watts, Alice Layne Gardner, Liam Marshall Day, and Marshall James Day; and a sister, Louise Nimmons Bowen (Tody) of Seneca, SC. She was predeceased by a daughter, Martha Barham Parker, her brother, Dr. Rufus Kay Nimmons, Jr., of Seneca, and a sister, Alice Nimmons Kerr of California.

A graveside service will be held Tues., Nov. 13 at 2:00 PM at Oconee Memorial Park, Seneca, SC. Memorials may be made to the Hon. Marshall J. Parker or the Martha Barham Parker Endowed Scholarships (Tri-County Technical College Foundation, Inc., P.O. Box 587, Pendleton, SC 29670) or to St. Mark United Methodist Church (616 Quincy Road, Seneca, SC 29678). Shives Funeral Home, Trenholm Road Chapel, is assisting the family.
