Martha LaVerne Littlejohn Phillips Hefner, 70, of Blacksburg, formerly of Columbia, died Thursday, October 5, 2017. Born October 27, 1946, in Gaffney, SC, she was a daughter of the late Robert Stanton Littlejohn and Elizabeth Melton Littlejohn.
Martha grew up in Gaffney, and in 1966, she married her high school sweetheart, Paul Edward Phillips. She attended Columbia Business College, while her husband played football at Carolina. His football career then took them to Virginia and San Diego before returning to Columbia. She worked at Rosen Real Estate in property management and, in 1980, she and her husband formed Phillips Property Management. She was an avid Gamecock football fan. After the death of her husband, Paul, in 1995, she later married Richard Hefner in 2006, and moved to Blacksburg, SC. They enjoyed their retirement years, traveling and spending time with their 3 precious grandchildren whom they loved and adored. Martha enjoyed her garden and cooking. She was a member of Union United Methodist Church.
Survivors include her husband, Richard L. Hefner of Blacksburg; daughter and son-in-law, Elizabeth "Mitzi" and Jarred A. "Josh" Daniels; grandchildren, Martha Elizabeth "Ellie" Daniels, Phillips Acker Daniels, and Alice Katherine "Kate" Daniels, all of Columbia; brother, Robert Stanton "Bobby" (Cathy) Littlejohn of Gaffney; brothers-in-law, Ronald L. Hefner (Patty) of Wexford, PA, and Joseph L. Hefner of Troup, TX; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
The funeral service for Mrs. Hefner will be held 2 o'clock, Monday, October 9th, at Shandon United Methodist Church, with Rev. C. E. Kanipe officiating. Burial will follow in Bush River Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends Sunday, October 8th from 5 until 7 o'clock at the Daniels' home in Kings Grant, and also prior to the service beginning at 1 o'clock at the church. Shives Funeral Home, Trenholm Road Chapel, is assisting the family.
