Marvin E. Desmond, 83, of Columbia, died on Friday, November 22, 2024. Born on July 22, 1941, in Columbia, he was the son of the late James and Margie Shull Desmond.

Mr. Desmond was a military brat and had the unique opportunity to live in South Carolina, Massachusetts, New Jersey, Virginia, and Hawaii while growing up. Prior to his retirement, he was employed as a topographer for The State newspaper and DGNF. Mr. Desmond was a member of the West Columbia Church of Christ, where he served on a mission trip to Romania in 2002. One of his greatest joys was driving around different areas of our community and surveying the physical features of the land.

Survivors include his wife, Barbara Desmond; son, Christopher Desmond of Cayce, and his sister, Deborah Sobotowicz (Bill) of Lexington.

The memorial service for Mr. Desmond will be held at 2 o'clock, Wednesday, November 27th at Shives Funeral Home, Trenholm Road Chapel, 7600 Trenholm Road Ext, Columbia, SC.
