Marvin Linwood Pond

Columbia: Marvin L. Pond, 65, of Columbia, died Monday, January 21, 2013. Born February 6, 1947 in Columbia, he was a member of St. Luke United Methodist Church. Marvin graduated from Eau Claire High School and immediately entered the US Marine Corps. He served his country during the Viet Nam Confrontation and was wounded during that time. He retired from Express Teller/Dunbar Armored Car.

He was preceded in death by his wife of over 20 years, Betty English Allison Pond. During their marriage, Marvin became a beloved member of her family. He is, therefore, survived by her children, Patricia English Mallory (Victor), John H. English (Tez') and Russell G. Allison (Donna); grandchildren, Tracy Mallory (Sheila), Johnny Mallory (Rebekah), Victoria Mallory DeLaigle (Jonathan), Beau English (Suzanne), Arland English Blackburn (Richard), and Matt English (Katie), and Glenn Allison (Erin) and Steven Allison (Russell); great grandchildren, Eric, Austin, and Avery Mallory (Tracy), Rachel, Caleb and Sarah Mallory (Johnny), Alex and Jack DeLaigle (Victoria), Greyson and Brooks English (Beau) and Isabella Blackburn (Arland), Tucker and Shelby Allison (Glenn); as well as a brother, Tony Hornsby of Chattanooga, TN. In addition to his wife, Marvin was preceded in death by his brother, Vernon LaMar Cooper; grandmother, Humming Abbott; and aunt, Almeta Frick.

A memorial service for Mr. Pond will be held at 11 o'clock, Saturday, January 26, 2013 at Shives Funeral Home of Columbia. The family will receive friends prior to the service beginning at 10:30 o'clock.
