Mary Bruce Austin, 88, of Columbia, died Sunday January 7, 2018, after a long battle with Alzheimer's. Born February 5, 1929, in Jefferson, SC, she was the daughter of the late James Gillian Holley and Mary Etta Horton Holley. In addition to her parents, Mary is preceded in death by her late husband, Eibe Fredrick Austin; and her oldest son, Larry Allen Austin.

Survivors include a son, Steven Alexander Austin (Trudie); grandsons, Mark Austin and Jason Austin of Columbia, SC, Kirk Austin and Fredrick Austin of Gilbert, SC; granddaughters, Ashley Austin Konieczko and Stephanie Austin, of Columbia, SC; as well as nine great grandchildren. A loving sister, wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother who fought Alzheimer's for nine years, which mercifully ended on Sunday.

To honor Mrs. Austin's wishes, there will be a private family graveside service. The family wishes to express their deepest appreciation to the loving and caring staff at both National Health Care -Parklane and the Palmetto's at Parklane Assisted Living Center, for their unbelievable care and dedication that was shown to her the last nine years of her life. Their love and professionalism made such a difficult time as comfortable as possible for our mother and grandmother.

In lieu of flowers, the family ask that memorials be made to the Alzheimer's Association, 140 Stoneridge Drive #210, Columbia, SC 29210. Shives Funeral Home, Trenholm Road Chapel, is assisting the family.
