Mary Elizabeth Clune, 83, of Columbia, died on Monday, August 18, 2025. Born in Walterboro, South Carolina, on June 28, 1942, she was a daughter of the late Isaac Jasper and Elizabeth Carns Johns.
Mrs. Clune was a devoted military wife as she traveled with her husband raising her family through many different states. Her passion was music and she enjoyed playing the organ at various churches and chapels as well as teaching piano. Later in life, she earned her Bachelor's degree in Liberal Studies at the age of 52. She was an active member of the American Guild of Organists and Spring Valley Baptist Church.
Survivors include her daughters, Lisa Sanchez (Mike) and Kimberly Clune; grandchildren, Rebekah South (Tyler) and Jonathan Sanchez; her great-grandson, Thomas Michael South and great-granddaughter, Miriam Joyce South; as well as her sister, Pat Bell (James) and various nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her husband, Robert E. Clune and son, Robert E. Clune, Jr.
The funeral service for Mrs. Clune will be held at 1 o'clock, Friday, September 5th, at Shives Funeral Home, Trenholm Road Chapel, 7600 Trenholm Road Ext., Columbia, with Dr. Rick McCollum officiating. Burial will follow in Fort Jackson National Cemetery. The family will receive friends prior to the service at the funeral home beginning at 12 o'clock.
