Mary McClure Curran, 78, of Columbia, SC died on Thursday, March 24, 2022. She was born in West Virginia and was the daughter of the late Alice Dia McClure and James Quincy McClure. The family later moved to Pennsylvania where she spent her childhood. In her senior year of high school, she and her family moved to Hampton County, SC.
She graduated from Wade Hampton High School and attended Erskine College and the University of South Carolina. She was a Senior Business Analyst with Blue Cross Blue Shield (BCBS) and retired after 40 years of service. At BCBS, Mary had many co-workers who became her lifelong friends, which saw her through some of the most difficult times as well as some of the best times in life. She also developed many close friends outside of work and cherished those friendships throughout her life.
Mary loved her children very much and provided a great life for them. She was very proud of her home, where she loved working in the yard and sitting on the deck listening to birds. She also enjoyed camping and spending time in the Blue Ridge Mountains. However, the biggest love of her life was her beloved Jack Russell Terrier, her "little buddy"- Quincy.
Survivors include her daughter, Amy Allison Curran (Elizabeth McDonald); son, Preston Brooks Curran, II (Tonia Wingard); granddaughter, Hannah Elizabeth Curran; stepsister, Beth McClure Busby; sister-in-law, Jeanette Hutchins; and nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her brother, James Charles McClure; stepmother, Elizabeth Wynn McClure; stepbrother, Thomas McClure; and stepsister, Melanie McClure.
A formal service will not be held at this time. A private Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the Arbor Day Foundation -
