Mary Jane Jacobs Davant, 78, of Columbia, died Monday, April 30, 2018. Born on May 10, 1939 in Knoxville, TN, she was the daughter of the late Clyde and Imogene Melton Jacobs. Mrs. Davant started working in a dental office at the age of 15 and spent more than 60 years in the dental profession. She was a member of the South Carolina Dental Hygiene Association. She loved playing tennis and served as Captain of her Wildewood tennis team. In her free time, she enjoyed dancing with the Saraband Club and traveling worldwide with the Gullible Travel Group. Most of her weekends were spent with family at their Edisto Island home, where she was a member of the Edisto Island Yacht Club. She was a member of Trinity Episcopal Church of Edisto and served on the altar guild.

Surviving are her husband of 58 years, Thomas Stovell Davant, V, DDS; daughter, Caroline Davant Baskin (Eric); son, Thomas S. Davant VI, DMD, MS (KimAnne Breland); four grandchildren, Ryan Taylor Baskin, Erica Davant Baskin, Thomas S. Davant VII, and Taylor Breland Davant. She is also survived by special friends, Vivian Wyche and Carol Digby.

A service for Mrs. Davant will be held at 3 o'clock, Thursday, May 3rd, at Shives Funeral Home, Trenholm Road Chapel, 7600 Trenholm Road Ext., Columbia, with the Rev. E. Weyman Camp IV officiating. The family will receive visitors following the service. The committal service for Mrs. Davant will be held at 4 o'clock, Friday, May 4th, at Trinity Episcopal Church of Edisto, with a reception to follow in the church fellowship hall.

The family would like to thank the nurses from the 5th and 11th floors of Palmetto Health Richland as well as Drs. Merritt and Myers and the staff of SCOA for their care and compassion shown during her recent illness.
