Mary Catherine Escobedo, 81, of Columbia, died Tuesday, May 10, 2022. Born July 6, 1940, in Carroll County, Virginia, she was the daughter of the late Russell and Hassie Mae Lineback Utt.
Prior to her retirement, Mrs. Escobedo worked in her sons' medical practice, AHS Medical Group. She was a faithful member of Woodfield Baptist Church and while her health allowed was involved in many church activities. Mrs. Escobedo was a loving, caring, and giving person who enjoyed assisting others. For many years, she was a loving caretaker for her late husband, Ismael L. "Mike" Escobedo.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her son, Roscoe Edward Smith, II; daughter, Pamela Annette Smith, as well as her brother, Russell Utt, Jr.

Survivors include her sons, Dr. Mark U. Escobedo (Cherie) of Columbia and Michael Tony Smith (Fran) of Columbia; grandson, Josh Svoboda of Columbia; as well as her siblings, Betty Jean Gwynn and Roger Utt.

The graveside service for Mrs. Escobedo will be held at 12 o'clock, Friday, May 20th at Fort Jackson National Cemetery, 4170 Percival Road, Columbia, SC.

The family will receive friends Thursday, May 19th from 6 until 8 o'clock at Shives Funeral Home, Trenholm Road Chapel, 7600 Trenholm Road Ext., Columbia, SC.
