Mary was born in Columbia, S.C. on May 17, 1930, to Lester Dwight Paschal and Zora Keefe Paschal. Mary graduated from Columbia High School and received a Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education from Winthrop College. She completed further studies in Education and Library Science at the University of South Carolina and Columbia College. She taught in Richland School District One at Watkins Elementary and St. Andrews Elementary (now H.B. Rhame) and served as a substitute teacher after retiring.
Mary loved to read, especially Christian fiction, and had a substantial library. She was a devout Christian and spent many hours studying the Bible. She was a faithful church member and seldom missed a service when her health permitted. She loved to travel, taking trips to Europe, Alaska, Canada and the Caribbean, and regular family vacations to Gatlinburg, TN, Kiawah Island, S.C., and the North Carolina mountains. She loved animals, particularly our wonderful Siamese cats, and enjoyed watching the birds at her numerous bird feeders.
She was married to Elmer F. Frick, Jr., for 67 years, and was widowed in January 2020. She is survived by her daughter Elizabeth Frick Potter (James) of Columbia, S.C., and son Kenneth L. Frick of Landrum, S.C; her grandsons Michael P. Mallin (Brittany) of Bend, Oregon and Nathan Carter Frick of Landrum, S.C.; her granddaughter Hannah Frick Kilian (Dustin) of Gaffney, S.C.; great-granddaughter Delilah James Mallin and great-grandsons Noah Hinson and Luke Patrick Mallin; step-grandsons, Richard N. Potter and William J. Potter of Columbia, S.C. She was predeceased by her brother John L. Paschal of Texas and her daughter-in-law Phyllis Carter Frick of Landrum, S.C. She loved her family fiercely! We will always miss you and love you, Mama! Your sweet nature and support meant the world to us and your deep faith was an inspiration.
We thank the wonderful staff of LaurelWoods Assisted Living in Columbus, N.C., Hospice of the Carolina Foothills, and Upstate Community Hospice House for their tender and attentive care to Mama. She loved many of her caretakers and the residents of her facility.
