Lugoff – Mary Ann Griffin departed this life on Monday, March 13, 2017, when the Lord gently called her home. Born in New York, NY, on September 15, 1956, she was a daughter of the late Preston and Thelma Griffin. While living in New York, she graduated from Julia Richmond High School, and later worked as a bank teller with Citi Bank. Mary became a conductor for the NY Transit System where she worked for 10 years, and then drove a school bus on Long Island. She moved to Columbia, SC in 2002 in order to care for her mother, and did so until Thelma's death in 2007. Mary then worked for the US Postal Service until her death.
Mary is survived by her children, Donnell Lawrence (Ingrid), Sadie Rodgers (Scott Rueger), Joseph Rodgers (Erika); grandchildren, Marcus, Daniel, McKenzie, Isabella, Nyona, Samariah, Joseph "JT", and Elijah; brothers, Johnny, David, Joseph, and Paul Griffin; sisters, Carol Britton, Wendy and Evelyn Griffin; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by siblings, Preston "Herbie", Steve and Stacy Griffin.
A funeral service will be held 2 o'clock, Sunday, March 19th at Shives Funeral Home, Trenholm Road Chapel, 7600 Trenholm Road Ext., Columbia. Interment will follow in Old McGraw Cemetery in Eastover. The family will receive friends from 5 until 7 o'clock, Saturday evening at the funeral home.
