Mary M. Hagood, 80, of Columbia, died Friday, February 5, 2021. Born December 27, 1940, in Blythewood, SC, she was a daughter of the late John and Irene Melton.

Mrs. Hagood was a true southern lady and matriarch of her family. She deeply enjoyed entertaining and cooking for them all. Mrs. Hagood adored her animals and considered them part of her family. She appreciated being outside, admiring her beautiful flowers and occasionally taking time to go fishing. One of Mrs. Hagood's favorite pastimes was painting.
Survivors include her children, Gloria Menz (Keith), Helen Williams, Teresa Leitner (Howard), and James Hagood; grandchildren, Christopher, Sherri, Matthew, Tia, Jennifer, Lara, James Hagood, Jr. Wes, Mark, Donnie, Michael, and Stacey; great grandchildren, Anna, Elijah, Kennedy, Ryan, Haydn, Nolan, and Valerie; as well as her brother, Richard Melton. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Homer Lee Hagood; sisters, Doris Melton and Susie Smith; brothers, Lonnie Melton, Walter Melton, and John "Junior" Melton. A grandson, Justin Menz, also preceded her in death.

A funeral service will be held 12:30 o'clock, Thursday, February 11th at Shives Funeral Home, Trenholm Road Chapel, 7600 Trenholm Road Ext., Columbia, SC. Burial will follow at 2 o'clock at Fort Jackson National Cemetery, 4170 Percival Road, Columbia, SC.

A visitation will be held from 5 until 7 o'clock Wednesday, February 10th at Shives Funeral Home, Trenholm Road Chapel. All are invited to attend; however, masks and social distancing are required to create a safe environment for all.
