Mary Ann Hough Hair, 94, of Chapin, died Monday, October 20, 2014. Born September 26, 1920, in Kershaw Co., she was a daughter of the late James L. and Lillian Beckham Hough. Mary graduated from Kershaw High School, where she played on the basketball team. She enjoyed many different careers over the years, working as a payroll clerk at the Haile Gold Mine in Kershaw and as a buyer for Belk Dept. Stores. As a member of the Eau Claire Community, she owned and operated Mary Ann's Beauty Shop, and worked as a dietician at Eau Claire High School. She also served as a football team mom at the time of Eau Claire's AAA Championship and was a Cub Scout Pack mother at Ascension Lutheran Church. Mary loved fishing, cooking and gardening. She was also a gifted knitter and ceramicist.
Survivors include her husband of 64 years, Harold D. Hair; son, Gary H. (Judy) Hair; granddaughter, Dr. Lisa (Trey) Darby; great grandchild, Charlotte Darby; nephew, Jim (Bobbie) Roper of Crystal River, FL; and niece, Aretha Ann Grillo of Valrico, FL. In addition to her parents, Mary was preceded in death by her daughter, Cynthia Ann Weaver; brother, James L. Hough, Jr.; and sister, Doris Roper.
The funeral service for Mrs. Hair will be held Noon, Friday, October 24th, at Shives Funeral Home, Colonial Chapel, 5202 Colonial Dr, Columbia, with The Rev. Vickie Powell officiating. Burial will follow at Woodridge Memorial Park, Lexington. The family will receive friends prior to the service, beginning at 11 o'clock. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the charity of one's choice.
