Mary Abdalla Kahaly, 95, widow of Dr. Richard John Kahaly, died on Saturday, June 1, 2024. The Mass of Christian Burial for Mrs. Kahaly will be celebrated at 10 o'clock, Saturday, June 8th, at St. Joseph Catholic Church. Final Commendation and Farewell Prayers will follow in Greenlawn Memorial Park. The Holy Rosary will be recited at 5 o'clock, Friday, June 7th, at Shives Funeral Home, Trenholm Road Chapel, 7600 Trenholm Road Ext., Columbia, with a visitation to follow until 7 o'clock.

Active Pallbearers will be Chris Brodie, Michael Genova, Tommy Genova, Dr. Leon Khoury, Jr., Tony Mellette and Charles Pearson. Honorary Pallbearers will be John Abdalla, Raymond Abdalla and Robert Kahaly, Jr.

Born in Columbia, SC on May 5, 1929, she was a daughter of the late Michele G. Abdalla and Edna Mae (Dunlap) Abdalla Blair. Mrs. Kahaly joined St. Joseph Catholic Church in 1959 where she became a devout and active member until her death. She supported her husband, Richard, in his medical practice by serving as his bookkeeper for many years. Mrs. Kahaly was proud of having raised her family of 7 children in a loving close-knit home.

Survivors include her daughters, Rosemary Byrd and Elizabeth Cheslak (Mark); sons, Richard Kahaly, Jr. (Dorothy), Michael Kahaly, John Kahaly, Thomas Kahaly (Dana) and Gregory Kahaly (Janice); grandchildren, Drew Byrd (Elizabeth), Christopher Byrd (Catherine), Amber Cheslak (Duncan Tyler), Melanie O'Shea (Andy), Mary Kelly Zajaczkowski (Greg), Richard Kahaly, III, Ann Buckholts (Chris), Robert Kahaly, Elizabeth Kahaly (fiancé, John Benitez), Alan Kahaly and William Kahaly; great-grandchildren, Perry Cate Byrd, Finn Byrd, Hazel Byrd, Quinn O'Shea, Eloise O'Shea, Archer Zajaczkowski, Marshall Zajaczkowski, Dezi Zajaczkowski, Lucy Kahaly, Luca Benitez, and Isaac Benitez; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her sisters, Frances Abdalla Brodie and Helen Abdalla Pellicci; as well as her son-in-law, Richard Howard Byrd.
