Mary Holbrook (Holly) Lumpkin of Columbia, South Carolina passed away unexpectedly on November 5, 2021. Holly was born on December 21, 1944, to Mr. and Mrs. Alva M. Lumpkin, Jr., of Columbia. She was the granddaughter of Alva Holbrook Rion and Willodene Elliott Rion, whose son was killed at Bastogne during the Battle of the Bulge just a few weeks earlier.

Holly received her PhD in Special Education from the University of Georgia in 1978. For almost a decade she worked at the Atlanta Area School for the Deaf and taught special education in Georgia and South Carolina public schools.

Holly was predeceased by her parents and her brother, Alva M. Lumpkin, III. She is survived by her brother, Peyre T. Lumpkin (Andrea) of Columbia, SC; two nephews, Peyre T. Lumpkin, Jr. and Matthew M. Lumpkin, and one niece, Caroline Hope Lumpkin.

She will be interred at Elmwood Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the local animal shelter or other Columbia area charity.
