Mary Odell McLeod, 93, of Columbia, died Tuesday, August 14, 2018. Born in York County, SC, on November 22, 1924, she was a daughter of the late Earl and Sarah Woods England. Mary was a wonderful hostess, an accomplished painter and always enjoyed gardening.

Survivors include her husband, Purdy B. McLeod, Jr.; a son, Richard Alves (Debby); step-children, Elizabeth E. McLeod, Mary A. McLeod Anderson (William), Jennifer McLeod (Merrick Mixson), and Bruce P. McLeod (Becky); grandchildren, Alexis and Chris Alves, Allison Alves Neidhardt, and Josh Alves; as well as nine great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents, Mary was preceded in death by her first husband, Col. Manuel Alves; a son, Lance Alves; and a step-son, Richard A. McLeod.

The funeral service for Mrs. McLeod will be held 11 o'clock, Saturday, August 18th, at Shives Funeral Home, Trenholm Road Chapel, 7600 Trenholm Road Ext., Columbia. Burial will be held in Arlington National Cemetery with the date to be announced. The family will receive friends Friday evening, from 5 until 7 o'clock at the funeral home.
