Mary Middleton Moore, 91, died Sunday, November 27, 2016 at her home in Still Hopes Episcopal Retirement Community, West Columbia, SC. Born in Warsaw, NC on July 1, 1925, she was the daughter of the late William James and Hattie Dobson Middleton. Mrs. Moore attended Peace College in Raleigh, NC. She married the love of her life, John Franklyn Moore, of Statesville, NC, in 1948. They lived in Raleigh and were members of First Presbyterian Church. She worked as a records clerk for North Carolina State University ROTC until her retirement. Mary enjoyed needlepoint, cross stitch, knitting, reading, bridge, and traveling. In her later years, she returned to her hometown and again became a member of Warsaw Presbyterian Church. Most recently, she was a resident at Still Hopes Episcopal Retirement Community, West Columbia, SC. She passed away on the first Sunday of Advent, the season when we wait expectantly for Jesus. Fitting, because more than anything else, she would have wanted us to do this every day. We are thankful to have had so many good years with her.

Mrs. Moore is survived by her daughter, Harriett M. Thornton (Al) of Columbia; her son, John M. Moore (Kathleen) of Raleigh, NC; grandchildren, Ginny Thornton Jones (Daniel), James Matthew Thornton, all of Columbia, and Katie Merkel Cameron (Willie) of Hampstead, NC; great-grandchildren, Cameron Virginia Jones and David Owen Jones of Columbia, SC; sister-in-law, Nell B. Middleton and nephew, W.J. Middleton, III of Warsaw, NC. Also surviving are several nieces and nephews, and their children and grandchildren. Mary was preceded in death by her parents and her husband of 53 years, and her brother, William James Middleton, Jr.

A memorial service will be held at Noon on December 2, 2016 at Warsaw Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Dr. Joseph Ward officiating. The family will greet friends in the Church Fellowship Hall following the service.
