Mary Pauline Nates Bowen Keels, 94, of Columbia, died on Wednesday, June 12, 2024. Born in South Carolina, on October 10, 1929, she was the daughter of the late John Simon Nates and Mary Maggie Lee Nates. Mrs. Keels was a loving homemaker and member of Killian Baptist Church.

Survivors include her husband, Stanford J. Keels, Sr.; stepchildren, Stanford J. Keels, Jr. (Dolores), Grace Bass and Eltis Slice; daughter-in-law, Ruby Bowen; as well as a brother, Kenny Nates (Linda); and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her son, Stuart Wayne Bowen; daughter, Mary B. Kelly; and brother, Jack Nates.

The graveside service for Mrs. Keels will be held at 2 o'clock, Monday, June 17th, at Greenlawn Memorial Park, 7100 Garners Ferry Rd, Columbia, SC. The family will receive friends from 4 until 6 o'clock, Sunday evening at Shives Funeral Home, Trenholm Road Chapel, 7600 Trenholm Road Ext., Columbia.
