Mary Nell West, 96, of Columbia, South Carolina, died on Monday, November 7, 2022. Mary Nell was born on Christmas Day, December 25, 1925 to Mary Edward and Casper H. Harmon and was raised in Gramling, South Carolina.

Nell is survived by her son John H. West, III (Jack) and his wife Joanne of Ft. Myers, Florida and a daughter Debbie West Knippen of St. Petersburg, Florida. Grandchildren; Jessica Butler (Christopher), Justin Knippen (Dr. Jennifer Knippen), Jason M. West (Sarah B.), and Rebecca W. Manley (Tommy). 10 great grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren.

She is predeceased in death by her husband John Henry West, Jr. to whom she was married for 57 years, and a son James Harmon West who died in June of 1962.

Nell received her education at the Spartanburg Business School and worked for many years at Pacific Mills in Lyman, South Carolina. She enjoyed her long membership in First Presbyterian Church where she was involved in many of the church's mission and benevolence groups. Nell was an avid gardener, flower arranger and most recently enjoyed sketching nature scenes and flowers.

Services will be held on Thursday, November 10, 2022 at 11:00 am.at Shives Funeral Home, Trenholm Road Chapel with Rev. David Lauten and Dr. Kenneth Harmon officiating. The family will greet friends immediately following the service at the funeral home. Burial will take place at a later date at Fort Jackson National Cemetery in Columbia, South Carolina.
