Mary Ellen "Polly" Raines, widow of Ernest E. Raines, died Wednesday, October 15, 2014. She was the daughter of Henry James Mattox and Kate Kelly Mattox. Polly was born February 8, 1923 in Blythewood.

Polly was active all of her life in her church, Sandy Level Baptist. She participated in various ministries and organizations, and was a devoted member of the church choir for many years.
Survivors include two sons, William "Billy" Raines and Jimmy (Lynette) Raines; a daughter, Mary Ellen Doble; son-in-law, Edward Cooper; eight grandchildren; sixteen great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild; as well as a sister. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Jacqueline "Jackie" Cooper; daughter-in-law, Carolyn Raines; one grandchild; one great-grandchild; six brothers; and two sisters.

A funeral service for Mrs. Raines will be held at 3 o'clock, Saturday, October 18th at Sandy Level Baptist Church, 408 Blythewood Road, Blythewood. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends prior to the service beginning at 2 o'clock in the church fellowship hall.
