Mary Kennedy Todd, 94, of Columbia, widow of Charles Edward Todd, died Wednesday, February 22, 2017. The daughter of the late Dr. Isaac Newton Kennedy and Mary Emma Carlisle Kennedy, she was born June 29, 1922 in Ora, South Carolina. Mrs. Todd was raised in Mooresville, NC and graduated from Erskine College. She and her husband, along with their best friends and brother-in-law and sister-in-law, George and Mae Moore, founded Todd & Moore Sporting Goods in 1944. Mary was a charter member of Sherwood Forest Associate Reformed Presbyterian Church. Known by Mary, Mama, and Gungy, she was an inspiration for her eternal optimism and her desire to be independent. She will be greatly missed.
Survivors include her daughter, Robin T. Robertson (Tim); son, Chuck Todd (Jennifer); son-in-law, Butch Balasco; grandchildren, Todd Robertson (Carla), Colin Robertson (Jen), Charlie Todd (Cody), Pierrine Thomas (Will), Byron Balasco (Juliette), and Alex Balasco (Nichole); great-grandchildren, Raya Robertson, Max Robertson, Charles Todd, Louise Thomas, William Thomas, Barron Balasco, Alexana Balasco, and Lola Balasco. In addition to her husband, and parents, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Deborah Todd Balasco; four brothers and three sisters.
A private family service is planned. Memorials may be made to The Talking Book Services Library, 1500 Senate Street, Columbia, SC 29201. Shives Funeral Home, Trenholm Road Chapel, is assisting the family.
