Mary Jane West, 80, of Columbia, died Tuesday, August 19, 2014. Born September 14, 1933, in Hibbing, MN to James Peter and Aileen Friend Flynn, she graduated from Hibbing Junior College and the College of St. Scholastica in Duluth, MN with a degree in nursing. She worked for VA hospitals in Houston, and Dallas, TX and Long Beach, CA where she met her husband, Art. She later worked for the health department in Oconee County, and retired from the Richland County Health Department in 1990.

Mrs. West is survived by her husband of 53 years, Arthur S. West; daughters, Deborah (Darrel) Petri, and Julie Hicks; sons, Eric (Miranda) West, and Andrew (Radley) West; nine grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and sister-in-law, Chrissie O'Kelley.

A memorial service is scheduled for 3 o'clock, Friday, August 22nd at St. John Neumann Catholic Church, with Fr. C. Alexander McDonald officiating. The family will receive friends at the church prior to the service beginning at 2 o'clock. The family suggests memorials be made to the American Cancer Society, SC Division, 128 Stonemark Lane, Columbia, SC 29210 or to St. John Neumann Parrish, 100 Polo Road, Columbia, SC 29223.
