Maurice "Reece" Hall, 93, of Columbia, died, Tuesday, January 24, 2023. A celebration of his life will be held at 2 o'clock, Saturday, February 4th at Shives Funeral Home, Trenholm Road Chapel, 7600 Trenholm Road Ext., Columbia, SC. The family will receive friends and host a reception following the Celebration of Life at the funeral Home.
Reece was born December 24, 1929, in Spartanburg, SC. He was the son of the late James Thomas and Leland Hall. Reece graduated from Mars Hill College with an associate degree in engineering. He would then attend the University of North Carolina and earn his Bachelor of Science degree in business. Reece honorably served his country for two years in the US Army during the Korean War and later for four years in US Navy Reserve.
He worked at Lederle Laboratories division of American Cyanmid for 10 years. In 1967 he relocated to Columbia, SC, where he went into business at Douglas Montgomery as a consultant. In 1988, they merged with Sloan Company and became Sloan, Montgomery, Gregory, and Hall. In 1995, Reece retired to pursue his lifetime hobbies of real estate, hunting, fishing, and airplanes. He was a dedicated member of Kathwood Baptist Church since 1967.
Survivors include his loving wife of 62 years, Kay Hall and his two children, Tom Hall (Mary) and Alison Hall Johnson (Brian) of Charleston. Reece also leaves behind his four grandchildren, Casey and Taylor Johnson, Katie Bridges (Wesley), and Miranda Washburn (Zack); as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his siblings, James Thomas Hall, Jr., Margaret Hall Mask, and Frances Hall Montgomery.
The family would like to express their gratitude to the staff of Palmettos of Parklane and Caris Hospice for their excellent care of Reece over the last several years.
