Melanie H. Chastain, 64, of Blythewood, South Carolina, passed away on Friday, July 25, 2025. Born on July 9, 1961, in Columbia, Melanie was the daughter of the late Barbara Ann Blanks and Hubert P. Haas. She graduated from Columbia High School in 1978.

Melanie was an Adoption Consultant for over 30 years. She enjoyed working with parents in finalizing adoptions, helping bring the joys of parenthood to countless people. Melanie remained close friends with many of the parents and the children over the years.

Melanie was a volunteer with Special Olympics in Columbia for over 10 years. She looked forward annually to planning and organizing the area of her responsibility in collaboration with others.

Melanie is survived by a son, Robert T. (Elizabeth) Chastain, and a brother, Brian H. (Jennifer) Haas, as well as several aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, and nephews. Melanie loved animals and over the years raised a donkey and many chickens, goats, cats and dogs.

The family appreciates your thoughts and prayers during this difficult time and suggests that instead of memorials, individuals can honor Melanie's memory in their own way.

A private burial to celebrate Melanie's life will be held with her family.
