Melba Cooper Smith, 85, of Hopkins, died Tuesday, November 1, 2016. Born May 22, 1931 in Blythewood, SC, she was a daughter of the late Fay Boyd Cooper and Alma Lilla Crumpton. Mrs. Smith retired from Allied Chemical after 28 years of service, and was a member of Beulah Baptist Church.
Survivors include her husband, Robert J. "Bob" Smith; daughters, Diane S. Fox (Richard), Sandi L. Smith; grandchildren, Richard Alan Fox, III, Nicole A. Fox; great-grandchildren, Lindsey, Ashley, John Jr., and Haileigh; sister, Nell Jenkins. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers, Edward Cooper, Herbert Cooper, A.B. Cooper, and F.B. Cooper.
A funeral service will be held 12 o'clock, Thursday, November 3rd at Beulah Baptist Church, 9487 Garners Ferry Road, Hopkins, with The Rev. Cameron DeBrew officiating. The family will receive friends prior to the service beginning at 11 o'clock. Interment will follow in Smyrna United Methodist Church Cemetery, Elgin, SC. Shives Funeral Home, Colonial Chapel, is assisting the family.
