Melvin Paul "Doc" Rogers, Sr., 84, of Columbia, died Wednesday, April 22, 2020. Born April 23, 1935, in Ward, SC, he was a son of the late Curtis Monroe and Minnie Blackston Rogers. Prior to his retirement, he was employed with the telephone company for 40 years. Mr. Rogers served his country for 10 years in the Air National Guard. During his enlistment, he was called to active duty in 1961 and reported to Spain for the Berlin Crisis. Mr. Rogers was an avid outdoor enthusiast who especially enjoyed hunting and fishing.
Survivors include his son, Melvin Paul Rogers, Jr. (Claudia) of Myrtle Beach; daughter, Debra Vazquez (Julio) of Irmo; grandchildren, Dawn Skipper (Christian), Andrea Reed, Michael Rogers (Layla), and Brian Rogers (Erica); 11 great grandchildren; as well as his sister, Patricia Ricter. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Eugenia Elizabeth Rogers; brother, Hubert Rogers; and his sister, Joyce Watts.
Services for Mr. Rogers will be private.
