Michael Doy Deaton, affectionately known as Mad Dog, 71, of Irmo, passed away on Easter Sunday, March 31, 2024. Born in Buckhorn, Kentucky, on September 11, 1952, he was a son of the late Doy Deaton and Iris Jean Amis Deaton.
Mr. Deaton graduated from Eau Claire High School and earned his bachelor's degree from the University of South Carolina. He was a proud veteran of the United States Army and served in Korea throughout his military career. His love for technology led Mr. Deaton to work for PepsiCo, Inc., where he retired after 25 plus years as an IT Specialist. He had a passion for music and being in the spotlight while performing for the locals. Mr. Deaton played guitar, keyboard, and was a talented vocalist. He was an avid animal lover and enjoyed gardening.
Survivors include his son, Joffere J. Deaton (Aubrey); three grandchildren; brother, Donald M. Deaton; and niece, Caroline Deaton.
A Graveside Service for Mr. Deaton will be held at 3 o'clock on Wednesday, April 17th, at Fort Jackson National Cemetery, 4170 Percival Road, Columbia, SC. Shives Funeral Home, Trenholm Road Chapel, is assisting the family.
