Michael C. Mitchum, 73, of Myrtle Beach and Columbia, died on Monday, September 6, 2021. Born September 6, 1948, in Columbia, SC, he was the son of the late Boyce and Julia Dawkins.

He was a proud Marine veteran, having served two tours in Vietnam, a Shriner, and a Mason. He was a Richland County Deputy Sheriff for ten years, having received his Criminal Justice degree from the University of South Carolina. He loved the outdoors, including hunting, fishing, and finding Indian arrowheads. Michael never met a stranger, was a giving person, and loved his wife and family.

Survivors include his loving wife, Linda; brother, Donald E. Mitchum; sister, Judy M. Mosley; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Michael was preceded in death by two brothers, Tommy and Steve Mitchum.

A celebration of Michael's life will be held on Tuesday, September 14, at Shives Funeral Home, Trenholm Road Chapel, 7600 Trenholm Road Ext., at 10:30 a.m. with a graveside service following at Fort Jackson National Cemetery at 12 noon.
