Michael John Osmundson of Columbia, S.C., died on Jan. 1, 2026. He was 71.
A son of the late Wayne and Jackie Osmundson, Mike graduated from Lower Richland High School, where he was a member of the marching band, the track team and a bus driver at 16.
He also received a bachelor's degree in accounting from the University of South Carolina and following graduation earned his CPA Professional License.
Mike was kind and compassionate, but with an "admirable" sarcastic streak. He was ready to help anyone, whether with financial advice, yard work, or moving. His neighbors and friends knew Mike was always ready to help whenever they needed it.
Mike was married to Susan for 37 years, building a special marriage that included raising fur babies, racing Hobie Cats, camping, making friends and spending time with family.
Mike had a special love for animals. From Skippy as a young boy through five Golden Retrievers, Mike spoiled his fur babies.
Mike had a near-life-long love of working on cars with a special affinity for transforming full-sized vans into campers or purchased fully converted. His vans were his office, a place to take a nap, tailgating, travel, and moving furniture for family and friends.
Survivors include his wife of 37 years Susan Pryor Osmundson; stepson, Christopher Agle (Laurie); grandchildren, Davis Christopher Agle, Patrick Michael Agle (Heaven) Great Grandson Mills, Samantha Grace Agle and Patrick Thomas Wallace; brothers, Jerry Osmundson (Judy) and Paul Osmundson; niece and nephew, James Osmundson and Chrissy Osmundson (fiancé, Grant Huddleston); and beloved fur baby, Sophie. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Jimmy Osmundson.
A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, Jan. 7, 2026, at Shives Funeral Home, Trenholm Road Chapel, at 2 p.m. Visitation at 1 p.m. with Pastor John Trump officiating.
Memorials may be made to St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
