Obituary

Mildred N. (Mibbie) Rogers, 87, of Columbia, passed away on Saturday, July 8, 2023. Born October 29, 1935, in Mullins, SC, she was a daughter of the late James Edgar and Bertha Ard Jones Norton.

Mibbie was born and raised in Mullins, SC and later attended Columbia College where she earned a degree in business administration. She enjoyed a long career and ultimately retired from the State of South Carolina, where she was employed by the House of Representatives. Mibbie was an avid bridge player for many years and had long term friendships with the ladies from her bridge club. She was truly a special person and was known for being generous and kind. She was always an animal lover but was best known for her sense of humor and quick wit. A common theme of Mibbie's life was music. Although she never had any formal training in music, at age 19 she played for her brother Hal at his first summer as pastor at Garden City Chapel. She sang in the choirs at the churches she attended in Greenville and Columbia and loved all Christian music, from the old classics to some of the newer praise songs. She passed down this love for music to her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren, attending as many performances as possible over many years.

Survivors include her children, Chuck Rogers (Jen) of Murrells Inlet, SC, Susan Hagedorn (Don) of Columbia, and Becky Rogers of Pawleys Island, SC. She also leaves behind her grandchildren, Candace Green, Nicole Aston (Matt), Marvin Rogers, Moreen Rogers, Joshua Rogers, Lauren Manning, Luke Manning, Elizabeth Manning, and Sarah Manning; great grandchildren, Brady Green and Jacksyn Green; sister, Nancy Poston of Lexington; as well as her brother-in-law, Carlisle Rogers of Marion, SC. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 67 years, Charles (Charlie) Louis Rogers; brothers, Jim, Billy, Johnny and Hal Norton and her sisters, Marjorie Norton Seale, Tina Norton Martin, and Verna Norton Bozardt. Mibbie also had many nieces and nephews that she loved dearly. Family and friends were very important to her throughout her life.
