Mildred "Millie" Lucille Dean Rogers, 87, of Columbia, died Wednesday, June 18, 2014. Born March 6, 1927, in Tilden IL, she was a daughter of the late Clarence Vernon Dean and Bessie Mae Williams Dean. Mrs. Rogers graduated from Missouri Baptist Hospital School of Nursing and attended Southern Illinois University. She retired from Baptist Medical Center in 1989. Millie was a long-time member of Park Street Baptist Church, and a member of their Love Sunday School Class, in which she often volunteered as a substitute Sunday school teacher.
She is survived by her husband, Robert "Bob" Bowers Rogers; sons, Ralph "Jack" Rogers and Earline Shealy of Columbia and Kent and Kathleen Rogers of St. Augustine, FL; brothers, Leroy and Myrtle Dean of Summerville, SC, Clifford Dean and Cecile and Donna Dean, all of Tilden, IL; and sister, Ruby Whitmore of Freeburg, IL.
A memorial service for Mrs. Rogers will be held 2 o'clock, Friday, June 20th, at Park Street Baptist Church, with The Rev. Dr. Lawrence Dennis and The Rev. Dr. Philip Whitehead officiating. The family will greet friends following the service in the church's fellowship hall. Memorials may be made to the church at 2204 Park St, Columbia, SC 29201; The Women's Shelter, 3425 N Main St, Columbia, SC 29203; or to the Humane Society, 121 Humane Ln, Columbia, SC 29209.
