Miriam Hopkins Simpson, born December 27, 1932 in Augusta, GA, to Marvin Alphonzo Hopkins and Inez Rose Waters Knyzewski, went home to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, Wednesday, April 8, 2020 at Prisma Health Richland Hospital. She graduated from Tubman High School and worked at Roy White's Florist and Providence Presbyterian Church Child Development Center. She was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church in West Columbia.
Miriam, affectionately known as "Granny", had a great sense of humor and enjoyed a variety of music, tending to her plants and flowers, as well as birdwatching. Her number one passion was her love for God and family. She will be remembered as an extraordinary loving, devoted mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, whose sacrificial love for the Lord and her children will continue to be her legacy until the end of time.
She leaves to cherish her memories: her sons, Jeff E. Day (Cindy) of Columbia, Rev. David W. Day (Annie) of Sumter, Rev. Craig M. Day (Sandy) of Charlotte, NC, stepson, William "Billy" Rubin (Cherrie) of Oceanside CA, Sherry Sides, Charlotte, NC; grandchildren, Scott, Matthew, Emily, Jonathan, Joshua, and Corey Day, Elizabeth Moore, step-grandchildren, Donald Rubin, Laura Sanchez (Joseph), Kip, Scott , and Ryan Sides; great-grandchildren, Mason, Parker, Nash, Sullivan "Sully", Hattie Day, Sarah, Annie Kate, and Lincoln Moore.
She was preceded in death by her husband and grandson, James Caleb Day.

A memorial service and celebration of her life will be held at a later date.
