On March 4, 2017, Mitchell Grimsley Morris, 50, lost his long, courageous battle with cancer in Austin, TX. He was born on January 16, 1967 to Janice Grimsley DeLozier and Carroll Morris. He graduated from the University of South Carolina with a major in Electrical Engineering. While still in high school at Spring Valley, he worked as a volunteer in the computer lab in the Moore School of Business under the guidance of Al Corbett. After graduation, he worked in Atlanta, Seattle, and finally in Austin, TX. Mitchell was widely known and respected for his intelligence and hard work. He will be sadly missed by his family, friends, and co-workers.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by his wife, Kathleen; two daughters, McKenna and Kyra. He was preceded in death by his sister, Jilda Sharp, who died on December 10, 2016 in Columbia.
A celebration of his life will be held later in the month. Shives Funeral Home, Trenholm Road Chapel, is assisting the family.
Memorials may be made to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, Palmetto Chapter, 1122 Lady Street # 1000, Columbia, SC 29201 in honor of his younger daughter who suffers from the disease.
