Mitsuko Elaine Henrick, 92, of Columbia, SC, passed away July 02, 2023. Born on December 21, 1930 in Hokkaido, Japan, she was the daughter of the late Shoitsuro Matsuba and Iwa Hirazuka Matsuba.
While working at the VFW in Japan, Elaine met Francis Henrick, who was serving in the Untied States Army. The two were married on April 3, 1956. As Elaine and Francis began their lives together, they adopted Arthur "Steve" Henrick and raised him as their own. After migrating to the United States, Elaine worked as a lead with Square D until her retirement.
A strong woman, Elaine was never afraid to get her hands dirty, in fact it was one of her greatest pleasures. Every year she planted a large garden which produced lots of produce for her friends and family. Elaine even won awards for her flowers which were on display at the South Carolina State Fair.
Elaine will always be remembered for her loving personality and ability to light up a room. Though sometimes strict and firm, her sense of humor always brought a smile to your face. Her warm hospitality always included cooking meals for her friends.
Elaine is survived by her son, Arthur "Steve" Henrick (Jannelle); grandchildren, Stefan Henrick (Haley), Hannah Henrick, Hadassah Henrick, Jonathan Henrick; soon-to-be great-granddaughter, Delilah; sister, Cho Howard; brother, Katsumi Matsuba; half-brother, Ken; and many loving nieces and nephews.
