MSG Harvey Lloyd, US Army (Ret.), 80, of Elgin, passed away peacefully on Monday, May 19, 2025. Born in Madison City, North Carolina, on May 22, 1944, he was the son of the late Vincent Alvoid Loyd and Lizzie S. (Pack) Loyd.
A proud patriot and devoted family man, MSG Lloyd enlisted in the United States Army and honorably served his country for 21 years. Following his retirement from military service, he continued to inspire young minds through teaching ROTC at AC Reynolds High School in his hometown of Asheville, NC. Later, he relocated to South Carolina, where he served as General Manager of a local car dealership before establishing and operating his own used car business in Newberry, SC. Eventually, he fully retired to spend more time with his beloved family, known as Top, Papaw, and Daddio.
Harvey's wide range of hobbies reflected his lively and spirited nature. He found joy in fishing, RVing, being an enthusiastic member of the Corvette Club, working 1000-piece puzzles, tending to his beloved tomato plants, pickling them by hand, and working on cars. Most of all, he deeply valued the love and companionship of his beloved wife and best friend, Nancy, with whom he shared 61 years of life together.
He is survived by his loving wife, Nancy Shope Lloyd; his daughter, Jackie Lloyd Brown (David) of Charlotte, NC; his son, Jason Scott Lloyd (Erin) of Irmo, SC; three sisters, Mary Johnson, Cathy Coleman (Richard), and Angie Riddle (Charlie), all of Asheville, NC; and four grandchildren, Colby Brown, Caleb Brown, Carissa Brown, and Caroline Brown, all of Charlotte, NC. He also leaves behind a host of cherished nieces, nephews, and extended family members.
A graveside service with military honors will be held at 2 o'clock on Tuesday, May 27th, at Fort Jackson National Cemetery, 4170 Percival Road, Columbia. The Rev. Grady Shope, Jr. and the Rev. Pete Lloyd will officiate, both of whom were proud to call him family. The family will receive friends before the service, from 12:00 to 1:30 p.m., at Shives Funeral Home, Trenholm Road Chapel, 7600 Trenholm Road Ext., Columbia.
Jason Lloyd, Grady Shope, Caleb Brown, Colby Brown, Tony Wages, David Brown, and Joey Bouknight will serve as honorary pallbearers.
