MSgt James Edward Stubbs, US Air Force (Ret.), 86, of Leesville, SC, died on Wednesday, January 17, 2024. Born September 30, 1937, in McColl, SC, he was son of the late Thomas Alexander and Gertie Mae Fowler Stubbs.
MSgt Stubbs grew up in Bennettsville, SC, where he attended public schools and played high school sports. While still in high school, he joined the South Carolina National Guard until his enlistment into the US Air Force. He would honorably serve his country in the Air Force for more than 20 years and receive many commendations for his meritorious service. Following his military retirement, MSgt Stubbs enjoyed a prosperous civilian career for over 20 years at Fort Jackson as a Contract Administrator. He enjoyed singing and was a member of a local gospel group, the Memory Singers. MSgt Stubbs was an avid sports fan and loved to play golf. He was a member of Main Street United Methodist Church. MSgt Stubbs will be fondly remembered for his friendly disposition, quick wit, and great sense of humor.
Survivors include his children, Eric Stubbs (Kristen) of Boise, ID, Allen Earles (Kay) of Chapin, SC, and Shannon Martins (Aniceto) of Leesville, SC. He also leaves behind the mother of Eric and Shannon, Dorothy Jean Stubbs of Boise, ID; grandchildren, Dain Stubbs, Ivy Stubbs, Mason Stubbs, Meghan Ridgeway (Chase), Jessica King, Jordan Lucas (Justin), Ben Schoelkoph (Jessica), Mallorie Brown (Stephen), and Christopher Hanson (Ramlah); as well as his great grandchildren, Grayson, Emma Kate, Amelia, and Austin. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Susan Gallant Stubbs, and his brothers, Bill Stubbs, Earl Stubbs, Joe Stubbs, and Alfred Stubbs.
The graveside service for MSgt Stubbs will be held at 3 o'clock, Friday, February 2nd at Fort Jackson National Cemetery, 4170 Percival Road, Columbia, SC.
