MSgt Cecil G. Montgomery, US Air Force (Ret.), 67, passed away on Thursday, November 9, 2023, in Columbia, SC. He was the husband of Faye E. Montgomery.
Born April 20, 1956, in Beckley, WV, he was the son of the late Cecil G. Montgomery and Dorothy M. Montgomery. He graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School in 1974 and then enlisted in the United States Air Force, where he served his country for 20 years before receiving an honorable discharge. During his Air Force career, MSgt Montgomery was stationed at Yokota Air Force Base in Japan and Osan Air Force Base in South Korea. He was deployed for Operation Desert Shield and Operation Desert Storm and received multiple accolades including, Air Force Commendation Medal, Outstanding Unit Award, Good Conduct Medal with 4 Oak Leaf Clusters, National Defense Service Medal with 1 Bronze Service Star, Overseas Short Tour Ribbon, Overseas Long Tour Ribbon, Air Force Longevity Service Award Ribbon, and the NCO Professional Military Education Graduate Ribbon. Following his military retirement, MSgt Montgomery would also have a career that spanned over 20 years with the United States Postal Service. He would officially retire as a Maintenance Manager in April of 2022.
Affectionately known to the family as Tweety, he will be remembered for his unwavering faith, his steadfast dedication, as well as his love for his children, grandchildren, and the Dallas Cowboys.
Survivors include his wife, Faye E. Montgomery; son, William G. Montgomery; daughter, Andrea M. Montgomery; three granddaughters, Kyah (his heart), Jordyn (his strength) and Jaxson Bella (his football buddy). He is also survived by three aunts, Della Leisure, Yvonne Winn, Nettie Bly, and Joyce Bly; three great aunts, Stella Meggison and Cleola Moore. Finally, he leaves to cherish a host of cousins, dear friends, coworkers, and his beloved dogs, Pepper and Princess. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his beloved Grandparents, Reverend and Mrs. James L. Bly and his grandson, Joshua Blake Smith.
The graveside service for MSgt Montgomery will be held at 2 o'clock Monday, November 20th, at Fort Jackson National Cemetery, 4170 Percival Road, Columbia, SC. The family will greet friends from 12:30 until 1:30 o'clock at Shives Funeral Home, Trenholm Road Chapel, 7600 Trenholm Road Ext., Columbia, SC.
