Myrtle Clyburn Shealy, 92, passed away on Friday, February 24, 2017. Born in Columbia on March 1, 1924, she was a daughter of the late Jesse Thomas Clyburn and Sarah Margaret Catoe Clyburn. Mrs. Shealy was an avid Clemson fan, attending many games, including the 1981 National Championship. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. She was loved by her family who really enjoyed having dinner together every Sunday. She was a member of Park Street Baptist Church.
Mrs. Shealy is survived by her children, Robert Newton Shealy, Jr. (Sandra) of Chapin, Margie Shealy Clough (Bubba) of Columbia, and Thomas Clyburn Shealy of Chapin; she was known as Mama Myrtle to her six grandchildren, Robyn S. Bellinger, Robert N. "Tripp" Shealy, III (Leigh), Andrea C. Lanham, Kimberly C. Laney (Jeff), Aaron T. Shealy (Virginia) and Stephen R. Shealy (Nikki); 10 great- grandchildren, and a sister, Marilyn C. Howard. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Shealy was preceded in death by her husband of 70 years, Robert Newton Shealy, Sr.; a sister, Sara C. Springs; and one great-grandson, Ashley Reed Shealy.
A graveside service will be held at 2 o'clock, Monday, February 27th, at Elmwood Cemetery, 501 Elmwood Avenue, Columbia. The family will greet friends following the service. Memorials may be made to Park Street Baptist Church, 2204 Park Street, Columbia, SC 29201; or the charity of one's choice. The family would like to express sincere thanks to the staff at The Lowman Home and caregivers, Pam, Frances, Felicia, and Barbara. Shives Funeral Home, Trenholm Road Chapel, is assisting the family.
