Nancy Luba Leckie Abbott, 73, passed away Friday November 1, 2024. She is survived by her husband Gary Walter Abbott.

Born in Anderson, SC as the seventh child of the late Lewis and Sophia Pasiuk Leckie, Nancy developed her charismatic and outgoing personality as her family moved multiple times before settling in Piedmont, SC. In her youth she was introduced to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and became a devoted follower of Jesus Christ. With a passion for music and a commitment to serve others Nancy touched many lives.

In 1977 she and Gary married in the Washington, D.C. temple. Together they raised 5 children. She is also survived by her children, Jonathan (Amy), Jacob, Mary Engstrom (David), Thomas, and Clifford. One of the joys of her life was spending time with her grandchildren, Ella (Goshorn), Charles, Eleanor and Louie (Engstrom).

Nancy may best be remembered for the relationships that she cultivated. If Nancy knew you and it was your birthday, you probably received a card in the mail. If you were going through a hard time, you could count on a phone call or a meal from Nancy. Just prior to her passing she had been in contact with a schoolyard friend from her childhood in Augusta. Nancy loved people and she exemplified the words of the Savior as recorded in Matthew 25:40 "Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren ye have done it unto me."

With an infectious smile Nancy could truly brighten any room. She will be forever loved and greatly missed until we meet again.

The funeral service for Mrs. Abbott will be held at 12 o'clock, Saturday, November 9th, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 4440 Fort Jackson Blvd, Columbia, SC. The family will receive friends Friday evening from 6 until 8 o'clock at Shives Funeral Home, Trenholm Road Chapel, 7600 Trenholm Road Ext., Columbia, SC, and again at the church prior to the service beginning at 11 o'clock. Burial will follow the service in Greenlawn Memorial Park.
