Nancy Christy Day, 78, of Columbia, died on Wednesday, April 9, 2025. Born on February 14, 1947, in Burlington, North Carolina, she was a daughter of the late Cornelius Klutz Christy and Edna Juanita James Christy.
Mrs. Day was a registered nurse who graduated from The University of South Carolina College of Nursing. She began her career as an operating room nurse and ultimately dedicated her 35-year career to enhancing the quality of life for seniors. Mrs. Day was the owner and operator of New Day Professional Services. She was considered a pioneer in her profession, teaching, consulting, and training healthcare professionals throughout South Carolina and the United States on the best ways to serve our senior population. In her spare time Mrs. Day enjoyed domestic and international travel. Her greatest joy in life was spending time with her family, especially her five granddaughters.
Survivors include her high school sweetheart and husband of 58 years, Donald Coker Day, Sr.; daughter, Stephanie Studnicka (fiancé Bryan Johnson) of Columbia; son, Donald Coker Day, Jr. (Caroline) of Aiken; granddaughters, Isabelle Studnicka, Camille Day, Carleigh Day, Mallory Johnson, and Celeste Johnson, as well as her brother-in-law, John Bush. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her siblings, C.K. Christy, Ronald James Christy, and Lou Frances "Sue" Bush.
The graveside service for Mrs. Day will be held at 11 o'clock, Wednesday, April 16th, at Greenville Memorial Gardens, 7784 Augusta Rd, Piedmont, SC 29673, with Rev. Richard Humphries officiating.
The family will receive guests from 5 until 7 o'clock, Tuesday, April 15th, at Shives Funeral Home, Trenholm Road Chapel, 7600 Trenholm Road Ext, Columbia, SC 29223.
