Nancy Phillips Hughes, 77, of Columbia, died unexpectedly Thursday, June 11, 2020. Born July 29, 1942 in Columbia, she was a daughter of the late William F. and Iva Nell Gooms Phillips.
Mrs. Hughes was a Logistics Assistant. In her retirement she proved to be fearless never being afraid to set out on a new adventure, alone if she had to. She loved her friends and would maintain those relationships in a monthly dinner and playing bridge. She enjoyed knitting, was devoted to her church and adored her family, especially her grandson.
Survivors include her daughter, Nancy E. Quinn (Michael); grandson, Ethan Quinn; sister, Fran Hoffman (David); and her best friend, Sarah Perkins.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her son, Vincent Logan Griffin; sister, Julie Gardner; and stepmother, Elizabeth Hipp Phillips.
A graveside service will be held Thursday, June 18th, at Elmwood Cemetery, 501 Elmwood Ave., Columbia. Ms. Hughes will lie in repose and be available for public viewing from 9 until 4 o'clock, Wednesday with a visitation to follow from 5 until 7 o'clock. Shives Funeral Home, Trenholm Road Chapel, is assisting the family.
