Obituary

Nancy Caroline Pryor Grills, 80, of Columbia, passed away at her home on Tuesday, April 4, 2023. Born in Ada, Oklahoma on May 1, 1942, Nancy was the daughter of the late Reverend Woodrow Wilson and Aileen Wright Pryor of Columbia and was preceded in death by her sister, Juanita Gordon of Elgin.

Survivors include her brother, Robert Pryor (Sandy) of Columbia; her sisters, Susan Osmundson (Mike) of Columbia and Sarah Beam of Charlotte, NC; as well as her daughter, Sherri Walton of Knoxville, TN. Nancy was blessed with many grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

Nancy loved the Lord and was a faithful prayer partner to many. She was a wonderfully talented potterer, watercolor artist, photographer, and a cat lover.

Nancy attended East Tennessee State University. After college she moved to Kingsport, Tennessee, where she lived for many years prior to moving to South Carolina in 1999. In Kingsport, Nancy was the proprietor of Woodside Art Gallery. In the Tri City area, Nancy was the winner of many art show awards and served as Juror for various other art shows. She attained "Signature" status in the Tennessee State Watercolor Society, served as the president of the Kingsport Art Guild, was a member of the Board of Directors of the Kingsport Fine Arts Center, and served on the board of the Downtown Kingsport Association.

After coming to Columbia, Nancy continued with her artistic talents by joining the Trenholm Art Guild and the Midlands Clay Arts Society. She served as President for Midlands Clay, was a team member for art and clay classes for the Wounded Warriors Project "Creative Journey," served on the judges panel for the "Gift of Life Foundation," in association with the Red Cross, and was an art show Juror and Judge.

Nancy continued teaching and lecturing on the intricacies and beauty of watercolor painting, authoring two hand published books: Anatomy of a Watercolor and Textures and Techniques.

The memorial service for Ms. Grills will be held on Saturday, May 6th, at 1 o'clock at Shives Funeral Home, Trenholm Road Chapel, 7600 Trenholm Road Ext., Columbia, SC 29223.
