Nell Hanberry Hightower, 82, of Denmark, passed away Tuesday, March 25, 2014. Widow of the late Thomas Julian Hightower, she was born in Bamberg County, SC on October 2, 1931. She was the daughter of the late Hurlbut D. Hanberry and Adelle Blume Hanberry. A lifelong member of Denmark First Baptist Church, Nell remained active as long as she was physically able, and she deeply loved the friendship and fellowship she shared with her Sunday School class over the years.
Survivors include her daughter-in-law, Faye B. Hightower; grandsons, Anthony Hightower and Dr. Marcus Weaver-Hightower and wife Dr. Becky Weaver-Hightower; great-grandchildren, Harrison and Evelyn Weaver-Hightower; brothers, the Rev. Dr. Gerald Hanberry and wife Patricia, and the Rev. Dr. Jack Hanberry and wife Barbara; as well as many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Nell was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Julian Hightower; sons, Tommy O'Neal Hightower and Wayne Hightower; and great-granddaughter, Matilda Weaver-Hightower.
A funeral service for Mrs. Hightower will be held at 11 o'clock, Friday, March 28, 2014 at Denmark First Baptist Church, with the Rev. Andy Hunter officiating. Burial will follow in Denmark Cemetery.
